Beautiful sisters Elizabeth and Diana Holland rule Manhattan’s social scene. Or so it appears. When the girls discover their status among New York City’s elite is far from secure, suddenly everyone—from the backstabbing socialite Penelope Hayes, to the debonair bachelor Henry Schoonmaker, to the spiteful maid Lina Broud—threatens Elizabeth’s and Diana’s golden future.
With the fate of the Hollands resting on her shoulders, Elizabeth must choose between family duty and true love. But when her carriage overturns near the East River, the girl whose glittering life lit up the city’s gossip pages is swallowed by the rough current. As all of New York grieves, some begin to wonder whether life at the top proved too much for this ethereal beauty, or if, perhaps, someone wanted to see Manhattan’s most celebrated daughter disappear...
In a world of luxury and deception, where appearance matters above everything and breaking the social code means running the risk of being ostracized forever, five teenagers lead dangerously scandalous lives. This thrilling trip to the age of innocence is anything but innocent.

Ninety-five days, and then I’ll be safe.I wonder whether the procedure will hurt.I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It’s hard not to be afraid while I’m still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn’t touched me yet.Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don’t.

Review of The Testing by Joelle Charbonne

The Testing (The Testing, #1)

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Isn’t that what they say? But how close is too close when they may be one in the same?

The Seven Stages War left much of the planet a charred wasteland. The future belongs to the next generation’s chosen few who must rebuild it. But to enter this elite group, candidates must first pass The Testing—their one chance at a college education and a rewarding career.

Cia Vale is honored to be chosen as a Testing candidate; eager to prove her worthiness as a University student and future leader of the United Commonwealth. But on the eve of her departure, her father’s advice hints at a darker side to her upcoming studies--trust no one.

But surely she can trust Tomas, her handsome childhood friend who offers an alliance? Tomas, who seems to care more about her with the passing of every grueling (and deadly) day of the Testing. To survive, Cia must choose: love without truth or life without trust.

First Review EVER ... here we go!

Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky, #2)

This is the second book in the Veronica Rossi’s Under the Ever Night series. If you are not familiar with these books go to your nearest library and put them both on hold NOW. I would say just check them out but I bet there will be a waiting list.

The Jist: In Through the Ever Night Aria and Perry are reunited and it feels so good (in singing voice)! … For about ten minutes. As the new Blood Lord, Perry wants Aria to stay with the Tides but they are not nearly as found of the outsider as their new leader. And what’s worse, the Anther storms are getting stronger and more deadly by the day. Perry and Aria are faced with some difficult decisions in an effort to save the ones they love.

Amazon vs Barns and Noble

I recently read a few articles (random 2am google searching) about how Barns and Noble is doing in this highly competitive technological market. Turns out that they aren't doing so well. Being one for of the very, if not the last, brick and mortar national chain of book stores they are actually doing okayish but then there is the e-book phenomenal, which I've admittedly been totally sucked into. Where they Nook is concerted, poor B&N is not doing so well and, from what I understand, the nook is sucking away the companies money. This is no good.

I hopped on the Nook train when they first came out. I'm not sure why but the Kindle just never really appealed to me. When I was asked what I want for the birthday the summer after the Nook was released  I didn't even have to think twice about my answer  My tech savvy husband on the other hand, insisted a doing research to make sure it was the one I wanted.

In all fairness the Nook kind of had a head start. I have been giving Barns and Noble a disgustingly large portion of money since I started getting allowance in the 6th grade. I loved going to the movies with my friends in high school because the theater was in the parking lot with the Barns and Noble.
The movie doesn't start for two hours? Ok I'll be with the books if you need me.

I have judge many a relationship on how long the guy will let me wander around Barns and Noble. The winners of my affections have often been those that chipped in for my books(now you know the way to my heart). Even now my husband rarely puts a limit on my book purchasing, whether that is because he is the sweetest man on Earth (seriously) or if it is because it just makes his life easier to just let me have my books, we may never know. The moral of the story is, I have a ton of books and the majority of them are from Barns and Noble. I know that are cheaper places to get books, but those places are not B&N. Those places don't ,usually, have a Starbucks attached to them ( the other... other love of my life) either.

But I think I have figured out the main reason Barnes and Noble has won my affection, they are one of the the few stores, if not the only store, that is always about the books. Yes Amazon sells books. Amazon even had books that you can't get at Barnes and Noble. But, while I am looking at books, I am also getting recommended the lasted DSLR that is on sale, and the wed site fills is necessary to keep reminding me about those calligraphy pens I put on my while list six months ago(my handwriting sucks by the way).

Barnes and Noble is and hopefully always will be all about the books. It sad to think that there may no longer be a Barnes and Noble to go to. A place where you can wonder around and find your next favorite book. A place with handwritten staff picks through out the store. A place where even on the wed site they have a person for each genre to tell you what they think of the latest and greatest books you might be interested in.

I hope that Barnes and Noble doesn't go away. I think people need a place like B&N to get away and focus on the books. I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon than discovering a new book and I can't think of a better place to do that than Barnes and Noble(libraries get mad when you bring coffee).
